Who is it for?
Problems in sound processing are common features of many developmental and learning disorders, including autism spectrum disorders, dyslexia, and ADHD. For some children and adults, sound hypersensitivities are particularly problematic. Sounds from vacuum cleaners, thunder, crying babies, and other sources may cause extreme discomfort and distraction. adAPT – advanced auditory processing training is a music based system for guiding the brain to become a better processor of auditory information.

How does it work?
Developed by a team of brain scientists, with funding from Cure Autism Now and the National Institutes of Health, adAPT is an educational program that involves listening to specially modulated music. The modulated music is believed to trigger neuroplasticity to re-organize a disordered auditory cortex into a better functioning system. In comparison to Berard Auditory Integration Training (a controversial alternative music based therapy), the music modulation profile for adAPT is explicitly based on over 15 years of neuroscience research by the team of scientists at CADET. Our study indicates that adAPT normalizes aberrant brain activity, reduces sound sensitivities, decreases irritability and behavior problems, and improves general auditory processing. Our on-going research includes the use of advanced brain imaging methods which is available through the Mind Research Network in Albuquerque, New Mexico. A white paper describing this research is available on our website (www.cadetnm.com).

What is the adAPT program?
adAPT is a 4-week, home-based program implemented as two 30-minute session per day for 5 days per week. Specially chosen music is included with the app (no additional purchase required), with modulation and playback completely automated within the app. The music modulation includes narrow and broadband filtering, plus insertion of everyday sounds for habituation. The music intentionally sounds a bit odd, with key characteristics to induce guided cortical re-organization. The whole program is automated, so just click play and follow the instructions in the app!

Highlights:
- For both kids (5+) and adults with sound hypersensitivities.

- Automated and home based: Use the app from the comfort of your home. There is no need for daily visits to a practitioner’s office.

- Specially chosen 96 kid-friendly songs are included with the app and no additional purchase within the app is required.
- Unlike most other music educational programs for reducing sound hyper-sensitivities, adAPT is explicitly founded on neuroscientific concepts and data.
