About this app

Scale Calculator converts lengths through a drawing, plan or map scale.

Set the scale and type one length; the other one follows. Or type both lengths and read off the scale they make. A padlock marks which side is the given one, so it is always clear which field the app is about to overwrite.

What it does
• Real length to length on the map or model, and back
• Works out the scale from a pair of lengths
• Common scales in one tap: models 1:1 to 1:87, architecture 1:20 to 1:500, maps 1:5,000 to 1:500,000
• Units: mm, cm, m, km, inches, feet, yards, miles, nautical miles
• Two bars comparing the lengths against each other
• Reads 1,5 and 1.5 alike, whatever language the interface is in

Useful for reading plans, building models and measuring off a map.

What’s new

Wording only — nothing calculates differently.

• The button that opens the preset scales now says what it does, and the sheet's heading says what is in it.
• An unlocked scale no longer describes itself as calculated "from the lengths below" — the fields are not always below it.
• The welcome screen is shorter and plainer, so it fits on smaller phones.
