Darby I have been using SkyPortal for a year withut any problems. Have just got an automatic update to ver 1.5.6 and it took 8 hours to download the data files to my Samsung galaxy tab S, they must have these files stored on a steam driven 51/4 floppy disk. I am unable to download he data files to my Galaxy S4 phone, getting a message o download from Celestron website. An absolutely usless update
Its ok Took the free download since I have a Celestron telescope. It works okay, but the compass feature is useless. Also, it doesn't seem to track the proper alignment of the stars, so if you're using it to get your bearings, it doesn't work. Overall, it's accurate but leave me lacking
Freezes I have galaxy s6. When it works, it works nice, but it the app will randomly freeze. Then you have to realign which is not too bad but annoying. 5 start if you fix it. Also slew buttons tend to stick.
Please fix bugs... If the bugs are fixed this would make the experience so much more enjoyable and a lot less frustrating. The compass option as others have said is almost useless unfortunately. I spend most of my night trying to allign 3 stars playing with slewing buttons that dont respond and then get constant alignment failed errors. Could we please have some feedback on possible updates on the horizon?
Hi, FYI. The download on my Nexus 5 stalls at 18mb. Now getting an error message also. It's also extremely slow. Over an hour to get to just the 18mb stall/quit point. Can't use app until it's fixed. larry
I have used a few other free planetarium apps, this one is by far the best. Sky map navigation is smooth and accurate, the app provides heaps of info and data on objects, and handling the app is great with lots of user setting options. A great feature of the app, i believe, is the audio commentary for various objects on top of the info provided as text/notes. Two noticable issues are: - Very large file size which makes the installation a bit dodgey. - The sky map may look a bit simplistic/insufficient for more serious users (amateur astronomers)
Version 1.5.6 Support for StarSense Accessory
-- Telescope control with StarSense, app now automatically aligns the telescope with a single tap.
-- Supports StarSense EQ, Alt-Az, and Wedge align, and StarSense Manual Align.
- bug fix: Links in object descriptions will not crash the app.
- Improvements to the UI
- bug fix: unable to configure SkyQLink module for AP mode.
