About this app

CharGen is an AI character creator and campaign companion for tabletop RPGs. Describe a hero, a villain or an NPC and get a portrait and a backstory. Record your session at the table and get the recap. Ask about your campaign and get answers from your own records. It works with DnD and any other tabletop system you play.

CREATE WITH AI
Describe a hero, a villain or a monster, pick an AI image model and an art style, and get a character portrait. Make maps, scenes and items the same way. Edit any picture: upscale it, restyle it, crop it, paint in a change or remove the background. Turn a picture into an AI video, give a character a voice, make music for a scene or build a 3D model. The Gold cost is shown before you generate.

22 RPG GENERATORS
The Workshop has a generator for everything a game master needs:
- NPC generator: a name, personality, backstory and portrait
- Monster generator with stat blocks and lore
- Dungeon generator with a map, room by room
- Quests, encounters, loot, magic items, shops and taverns
- Settlements, regions, factions, pantheons, species and whole worlds for worldbuilding
Keep what you make in folders in your Library, and edit it with a plan.

RECORD YOUR SESSIONS
- Put your phone on the table and record. Drag the recorder down and keep using the app while it records.
- Or upload a recording, paste a transcript or write a short summary.
- CharGen writes the recap: the story, the key events, the highlights and the people who were there, with pictures on the moments that mattered.
- Voice ID names who said what, with your players' agreement, on a paid plan.
- Share a session with your players by link. They don't need an account, and they never see your DM notes.

ASK ABOUT YOUR CAMPAIGN
Ask the Assistant things like:
- Where did the last session leave us?
- Who gave the party the map?
- Which quests are still open?
It answers from your campaign's records and shows where each answer came from. Nothing it suggests is saved until you say so.

YOUR CAMPAIGN IN ONE PLACE
- A page for every person, place and thing in your world
- Quests and open threads, including the ones your recaps suggest
- Your players and their characters, and your DM notes

ONE ACCOUNT
Use the same account in the app and on char-gen.com. Your gold, your plan and your campaigns go with you. Plans add monthly gold and unlock every image model.

What’s new

New in 1.5.0. Voice ID names the speakers in your recordings by voice: turn it on in Campaign settings, record each player's agreement, and the Voice Check plays short clips so you can say who is who. Add and edit your players on the phone. Write a session up again from its recording or transcript, or delete its recording. Play a recording before you send it, and a session's audio from its page. Fixes for guests in Who played and for retried sends.
