HOW IT WORKS
Pick the apps you reach for when you meant to study. Instagram, TikTok, X, whatever's eating you. When you try to open one, a puzzle takes over. Solve it and you're in.
Two ways to play it. Timed gives you 1, 5, or 15 minutes across your blocked apps for each puzzle you solve; when the time runs out, the puzzle comes back. Every open asks for a fresh puzzle each time you open a blocked app, and then leaves you alone for as long as you stay.
The puzzles match your level. Type your chess.com or Lichess rating and we'll start there, or skip it and three quick puzzles will find your level. From then on every puzzle is hard enough to make you think and fair enough that you'll get there.
Insights show which tactics keep tripping you up. Your rating moves in real time on every solve.

HOW CHESS SHIELD USES THE ACCESSIBILITY PERMISSION
Chess Shield asks for the Accessibility permission for one reason: to notice when you open an app you chose to block, so it can show you a puzzle. That is the only thing it does with it.
It does not read the content of your screen, it does not log what you type, and it does not send anything anywhere. You turn the shield on yourself, you pick the apps yourself, and you can turn it off in Settings at any time.
PRIVACY
No accounts. No analytics. No servers. Chess Shield has no backend at all: your rating, your streak, your puzzle history and the list of apps you blocked live on your phone and nowhere else. To show you the app picker, Chess Shield reads the list of apps installed on your device. That list never leaves the phone.
WHY IT'S DIFFERENT
Most focus apps are guilt machines. Most chess apps want your scroll. Chess Shield does both jobs at once. Every minute in here is measurable progress, not just dopamine.
