I think this app is super well organized. It isn't a monolithic app that will totally teach you Chinese but it doesn't try to be. It's a really great way to learn more vocabulary and the drawings really help a lot (some are a stretch or silly, but honestly sometimes that's easier to remember). I love the flashcard feature, the "words to learn" feature, and the stories feature. Definitely worth the money for the full version.

I study many languages (Russian, Indonesian, Malaysian, German, and Chinese). This is by far the best vocabulary app for Mandarin I have found. Each of the characters is presented in a well designed way and offers an explanation of why the character is used (great idea for the radicals). The price may seem a little high but when you compare it to other apps that don't offer as much artful ideas, it is definitely worth it. Currently (according to my calculations) the app offers about 2,500 words

Testing and review is awful. A speaker may say a character and you have to pick the right one from 4, fine, right? Except only one of the four choices you're presented with as answer choices actually appeared in that lesson- so you simply have to select the new character to answer the question! There's then no need to even listen to get the right answer! You may be given a character & asked for the meaning from the options, but only one option even matches the theme of the lesson. Needs work!
