About this game

Allied Invasion of Sicily 1943 is a turn based strategy game set on the Mediterranean Theater during the Second World War. From Joni Nuutinen: by a wargamer for the wargamers since 2011. Received latest features on January 2026.

You are in command of the amphibious assault force of two separate Allied armies invading the island of Sicily in the summer of 1943. Codenamed Operation Husky, it is effectively the first step in the Allied Italian campaign to strike into the soft underbelly of Axis-held Europe, as Churchill elegantly said.

In addition to taking on the various Axis formations, ranging from weak Italian coastal units to the more formidable German Tiger tanks and elite paratroopers, and the fierce fighting in the mountain passes, the campaign is well known for the sometimes fierce competition between British and American forces to reach Messina before each other. The British Chiefs of Staff pushed for the invasion of Sicily, arguing it would force Germany to disperse its forces, knock Italy out of the war, and move Turkey to join the Allies. The Americans opposed the plan but eventually agreed to the Sicilian invasion to reduce the Axis attacks against Allied shipping in the Mediterranean.

"Sicily is the key to the Mediterranean, and the Mediterranean is the key to the war."
- Prime Minister Winston Churchill

For those familiar with other offerings in the series, this regiment/brigade level game offers little room for encirclement, with the Axis forces holding multiple lines of bunkers behind rivers, and there's not much option than to smash your way through. The resources could have used fewer hospitals and (way) more pontoons, but that aside, it has all the elements you love in this series.

What’s new

+ Scenario change: The low number of special airfields that provided B17 strikes once captured are discarded and air strikes will be available automatically from now on, as the airfields assume the same duties as in rest of the games (any possible air force units, generals, and low HP units can airlift from one airfield to another one nearby)
+ Plus rest of the updates that are being rolled out to the underlying game engine, see Change Log for details
