About this app

HelpAge and its implementing partners RIC and YPSA have implemented project to address the needs of the older persons designed a highly adaptable model of integrated service provisions in health, protection and WASH. Under this project, five Age Friendly Spaces (AFS) comprising both static and mobile services have been running. The AFS serves as a central point for information provision, referral mechanisms to services including registration, health, food, WASH, Shelter-NFI and other essential humanitarian services. In addition, there are direct provision of protection case management, basic health screening, psychosocial support, and recreational/social activities. Each AFS is staffed by 02 Supervisors, 08 Field Facilitators, 02 Counsellors, 01 Physiotherapist, 01 Pharmacist and 04 Paramedics with a medical doctor roving whole project sites. Half of these staff works at the static center i.e. at AFS while the other half work on outreach service delivery. The outreach teams provide all the services available at the AFS. They also implement HelpAge Home Based Care model to reach PwD. In addition to the formal positions, there is a team of 8 Community Health Volunteers per AFS in the outreach structure and 20 Older Person Representatives who serve as community protection volunteers. An AFS Management Committee comprising OP from the catchment area sit fortnightly to review ongoing activities, share information on the situation of older people in the camp, and inform planning for ongoing and future activities.
Standard Case management processes are in place to support survivors of Violence, Abuse and Neglect of older people. Older people provide with age and gender specific and appropriate NFIs, using an Individual Protection Assistance approach to ensure the hard to reach older people are included. In consultation with the OP, HelpAge and partners have ascertained that OP specific needs are met, there will be a very significant improvement in their well-being. Therefore, HelpAge provide Age Friendly Kits, the contents of which reflects further OP consultations.
The project also influences other actors (INGOs, Government) on the inclusion of OP and PWD in humanitarian response activities.
The overall outcome of the project which is ‘Increased access to life-saving and life-improving humanitarian services for older men and women and their families via the provision of integrated protection, health, WASH services and robust referral mechanisms'. This will be achieved through the production of 4 key outputs:
➢ Increased access of older women and men, including older men and women with disability to integrated health services
➢ Exposure of older women and men to communicable diseases reduced by provision of access to safe, appropriate and dignified WASH services at AFS and in outreach activities
➢ Older women and men have access to safe and dignified spaces in which to access protection services and recreational activities via AFS and Community Based Protection services
➢ Both government and non-governmental humanitarian actors have knowledge, capacity and willingness to provide inclusive services for older women and men, including those with disability.
