Sound Scouts is a tablet game designed to test the hearing of children (minimum age: 4years 9months). The game is fun and easy to play. It follows the story of Patch, a bionic-eared dog, who works in the National park. When one of the rangers goes missing Patch must use his hearing to help solve the mystery and locate the ranger.
Developed in collaboration with the National Acoustic Laboratories, Sounds Scouts looks and feels like a game, however it incorporates advanced scientific principles that enable it to detect a range of hearing problems. While Sound Scouts is based on science it’s the game play that encourages and enables a valid hearing check for children.
Multiple voices and noises will be heard in both ears and these are a feature of the testing process. It's not uncommon for adults to find the game harder to play than children.
Testing is ONLY valid for children aged 4 years 9 months and older. Parents must enter some details (including the child's age) and complete a short activity before the child begins the game. Children should be able to identify the following colours; red, white, black, blue, yellow, green, orange and brown. Colour blindness may influence the results.
You can download the App and view a trial for free but to play the game and receive a result you must purchase a session. This can be done within the App. Your first purchase includes 1 additional session. Session bundles of 1, 3, 10 and 50 are offered. Sound Scouts is principally designed as a one-off hearing check. It is not designed for repetitive game play. Should your child need to repeat the test due to illness or an invalid test result, we recommend waiting a minimum of 7days.
