Chief Meteorologist John Ahrens and Severe Weather Center 9 meteorologists have made the most accurate local weather app, “The WSOC-TV Weather App,” even better. Charlotte’s most powerful weather app includes the following:

Summary of Features:
- There is a new radar in the weather app that matches the radar found on other digital platforms and also includes future radar to provide you with a likely path and outlook of storms. The radar has 250 meter resolution, the highest available.
- New tracks - We added earthquakes and storm tracks as layers in the radar. Now you can track the location and magnitude of earthquakes as well for storms the speed, direction and type. Tap the “storm symbols” icon in the radar to see the list.
- Locally crafted forecasts. Select a location inside the Charlote market to see a local forecast created by WSOC-TV’s local weather experts. The app tells you which member of Severe Weather Center 9 crafted the local forecast. National applications that come pre-loaded on your phone don’t have local experts focused solely on getting the local forecast right every day.
- Push alerts are FREE for more than 25 alert types including everything from tornado warnings to winter storm warnings and tropical storm alert types.
- Now you can scroll through the home screen to access most of what you need or want on one tab.
- Place a location pin precisely where you want it for a specific address or any position on a map. When saving a location you can name it exactly how you want it.
- The app works with identical features on tablet and handset.
- Additional items added seasonally

Ratings and reviews

Channel 9 will always be my choice, in news, local stories and especially the weather. I also have the News App. What I like most is you're able to customize alerts that you would like to be notified of and which alarm sounds and notifications you receive. Alarms come through nicely and that gives me comfort, knowing I may be able to get to safety, if needed. And, they always go live when a weather warning is in the broadcasting area and stay with us until the threats pass. Thank you, WSOC! 💕

This app used to be very informative, but someone thought it would be a great idea to show only videos. contrary to what channel 9 might think, there are still plenty of people out there that enjoy reading about the weather! I'm uninstalling this app, when you people stop having a power struggle, put the old app back up.

Use to be a great app still is radar wise but the alerts stink! use to be the alerts Thunderstorm, severe warnings etc were good for my area but now I get alerts & warnings for areas that are 50, 60, 40 miles away come on channel 9 severe weather people what did you do to this app I want alerts for my area only please fix this app! until you do you only get one star
