Colonist is a free online alternative to the challenging social and strategy based board game Settlers of Catan. You take on the role of a Colonist by building settlements and expanding your territory. Colonist combines extremely simple rules with tremendously deep gameplay. Use strategy, planning, and cunning negotiation to win.

You can train against bots, play with friends online, and even compete in our ranked mode for a spot on the leaderboard! We also offer a variety of fun custom maps to play on in addition to traditional expansions like Cities & Knights and Seafarers. You can even play with more than 4 friends with our 5-6 and 7-8 player expansions.

In the store, you will find a wide array of custom colors and avatars that allow you to personalize your profile and show off. Pick a unique color and avatar combination to instill fear in your opponents!

Ratings and reviews

Great copycat of Catan. Minus one star for required subscription plans to host a match with all expansions at a hefty $240/year but it is nice you can still play with the expansion if someone else hosts. You also need the Seafarers expansion to utilize ships on sea maps which makes sea maps pretty much useless. The new update is also minus one star as mobile menu UI can't rotate out of landscape orientation and I can't see menu options while in landscape mode. Still a great game!

The new update is pretty good but it did introduce some bugs (e.g. some images not being properly sized and like 5x the width of a mobile screen). HOWEVER, every time I leave a game, it will send me back to the old app version with a prompt for me to update the app. But it's already updated, so I have to close the app completely to be able to play another game.

New update/UI is actually a downgrade. I appreciate the devs trying to make a better overall experience, but setting up a game used to be 1 click then a window with all the settings, now it's multiple clicks and the copy link option doesn't work so I can't even invite my friends. Please give us the option to use the legacy UI it was much more convenient. Also, sign in used to be optional, but now it's required, hence 1 star. Will update if issues addressed.
