Simulated Microscopic Worlds

About this app

Tiny discoveries. Big curiosity.

Petri Dish puts a living drop of pond water in your child's hands. Paramecia glide, an amoeba creeps, Euglena spins and bacteria jostle around them, just as they would under a real microscope.

EXPLORE
• Tap any creature to open its card: what it is, its real name and how big it really is, in words kids understand.
• Collect every creature you find in the field guide.
• Pinch to zoom and turn the focus, like a real microscope.

A LIVE WALLPAPER, TOO
The same slide can swim behind your home screen.
• Tap empty water and everyone jumps.
• Swipe between home-screen pages to slide the microscope stage.
• Watch for rare visitors: Volvox, Vorticella and the tardigrade, the tiny "water bear."
• Choose the light: bright field, glowing dark field, silver phase contrast or a pink-and-purple Gram stain, or let it follow your phone's light or dark mode.
• Set how crowded and how lively the slide is.
• It only animates while it's on screen.
