Having been a member since the inception of Couchsurfing, I find the changes in site are the most miserable renovations possible. It is impossible as a host to learn of the person who is requesting to stay, it is difficult having to go through the entire [pocess each time I make a request of more than one host in a city. It is an entirely useless renovation.

The biggest problem here is Couch Surfing FORCED MIGRATED our user account into the new platform without letting us know in advance and without user permission. For a subscription based app, this is a problem. In my case, I had just paid for a one year renewal of my subscription only weeks before they forced the migration. Many of the features are gone, and blindly automated. People who haven't logged in years show up in your searches. Messages aren't seen. Not good at all!!!

Pathetic to paywall a couchsurfing app. I'd get it if there were a free option or if the subscription was cheaper but I had already paid a fee to get my profile verified in the past and now they want a monthly subscription? that will be the death of this app. 2026 edit: the new update is awful and unintuitive, borderline unusable. It's basically not even couchsurfing anymore. The best thing they could do is entirely undo the changes.

What’s new

Navigating the Hangout just got a whole lot smoother! People in the Hangout are now grouped together, making it much easier to explore the Events map — especially in busy, high-energy locations where the action never stops. You'll also notice a handy unread dot indicator on the Home icon in the navigation bar, so you always know at a glance when something new is waiting for you. We've also sharpened up the read and unread indicators in the Activity Center to make sure they're always spot on.
