About this game

Eight word puzzles on one desk, made fresh on your phone: word search, a letter wheel, word ladders, a seven-letter hive, a letter grid, fill-ins, ciphers and a daily five-letter guess. Every puzzle is built right here, from a dictionary that knows the difference between a word and nonsense. No ads.

The eight
Search — find every word on the list, in any direction, on boards from 8×8 to 16×16.
Scramble — anagrams: drag through the letter wheel; the words that fit drop into a crossword.
Ladder — a word ladder: turn one word into another, one letter a rung.
Hive — seven letters, one in the center, every word you can make; find the pangram.
Grid — swipe through touching tiles; every real word counts, and there is a timed mode.
Fill-In — a fill in puzzle: fit every word on the list into the grid; the crossings have to agree.
Cipher — a cryptogram: a quotation in a substitution cipher; crack it letter by letter.
Five — the daily five-letter guess, with a hard mode.

Made, not served
Quill has no level packs to run out of. Each puzzle is generated on your phone from a tiered English lexicon — common words for the answers, a wide dictionary for what you find along the way — and graded before you see it, so Easy is easy and Expert is not. A word search mixes its directions and crosses its words, and every grid is a fresh one. A hundred and fifty themed word search packs come along too.

A Post every day
Every day brings a Post of eight, one puzzle of each kind, the same for everyone and built from the date. Solve one and your streak lives; solve all eight and you bank a freeze for a day you miss. The calendar keeps every day.

Nothing you can lose
No ads. No energy, no lives, no coins, and no timer on a puzzle unless you ask for one. Check, Undo, Restart and Shuffle are unlimited and free. A hint is a button you press: a small bank that refills with time, and nothing is sold by the piece.

Two looks
Glass: panes over calm, living scenes, in five accents. Study: a rendered desk of oak, ceramic, slate, brass and marble on paper, in four rooms. Switch whenever you like.

Yours, on your phone
Works offline. No account, no sign-in, no server: every puzzle is made here and nothing about your play leaves the phone. Export a backup file whenever you like and import it on another device. Twenty-two languages, color-blind marks, reduce motion, large targets, a left-handed layout, and a board a screen reader reads tile by tile.

One purchase, not a subscription
Every type, the Easy and Medium levels, the smaller sizes, today's Post, twelve packs and three of the four rooms are free. Quill Unlocked adds the rest: every size and level, every past day of the Post, all hundred and fifty packs, the fourth room with the brass and marble tiles, all-time stats, and a bigger, faster hint bank.
