A game. Nobody here can see the future, including you.
Somebody sits down. They tell you one thing about themselves and hide a second one. Three cards go down. You decide, out loud, what they mean, and they pay whatever they thought it was worth.
Reading Room is a tarot shop game about listening. Four clients a day, about thirty-five seconds each. No grid, no clock inside a reading, nothing to tap quickly. The only pressure in the room is the person across the table.
WHAT THEY WANT IS IN THE FIRST THING THEY SAY
"I am not asking about him. I am asking about the flat. Which he is in."
"I have decided already. I just wanted to ask somebody."
"You can tell me the bad one. That is what I came for."
EVERY CARD OFFERS YOU MORE THAN ONE READING
Turn a card and pick the tone. Kind, blunt, or the interesting one. The same card means something different depending on who is sitting there and what they came in already having decided.
WATCH THEIR HANDS
You never see a face. The client is a silhouette and a pair of hands, and the hands are the whole of the HUD. They open, they fold, they go still while you are still talking. Then they pay what they decided it was worth, say one more thing on the way out, and the next person sits down.
THE SHOP REMEMBERS WHAT YOU SAID
Every reading you have ever given is written down, and clients come back to it. Tell somebody the door is already open and be ready to hear about it next week.
OUR OWN DECK
Twenty-two cards drawn for this game, with their own names. Nothing is taken from any published deck, and the game makes no claim about anybody.
WHAT IS IN IT
- Twenty-two cards, each with several readings
- Twenty-two things to buy for the shop, from a better cloth to a chair people stay in
- Twenty-three goals
- Three hidden things, all of them about memory
- Once, and only once in the life of a save, a card turns itself over
- Korean and English. The Korean was written first
NO NONSENSE
No energy bar. No timers between days. No waiting to play. Open the shop, read for four people, put the shutter down. It saves where you left off.
Contains ads. One optional purchase removes the full-screen ones for good.
