E Codes - Food Additives (PRO Version)

• Browse a comprehensive list of food additives and access information for each one to read, listen to, or share it.

• Search by E number or name using your keyboard, voice recognition, or your phone's camera.

• Search for any term within the additive information. For example, search for "egg" to find those whose information contains that term.

• Add products to the additives to keep track of where you find them. To remove a product, tap and hold it.

• Filter multiple additives at once by entering their codes separated by spaces, for example, "301 302", or by identifying them using your phone's camera. Then, you can remove unwanted additives from the list by tapping and holding them.

• Use the green "Save Product" button to assign the same product to all the filtered additives.

What are food additives?

Food additives are substances intentionally added to food to perform a technological function, such as preserving it, maintaining or improving its texture, stabilizing it, modifying its color, sweetening it, or enhancing other characteristics.

In the European Union, additives must be scientifically evaluated before being authorized. Their use is permitted only when the established conditions for each substance are met, and their use must not pose a health risk in the authorized quantities.

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) assesses potential health risks and, where appropriate, establishes an Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI). Furthermore, authorized additives may be re-evaluated when new scientific knowledge or data becomes available.

Therefore, the fact that a substance has been assigned an E number means that it is authorized for certain uses in the European Union. This does not mean that all additives are the same or that they can be consumed in any quantity.
