About this app

Approximately 250,000 people from Castile-Leon have diabetes mellitus. In recent decades there has been an increase in the prevalence of diabetes worldwide, especially type 2 diabetes mellitus, a consequence of resistance to insulin action, and which is motivated by obesity and sedentary lifestyle more and more. present, which makes diabetes one of the main public health problems in our environment today.
In people with diabetes, whether or not they need insulin as a treatment, it is essential to carry out adequate diabetes education from the moment of diagnosis, since we know that it is the first therapeutic resource to allow the subsequent success of any pharmacological measure. Its objective is to train the person with diabetes in their self-care, facilitating the acquisition of knowledge and skills necessary for good control of the disease and thus minimizing the risk of future complications.
From the Castilian-Leonese Society of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Nutrition (SCLEDyN) aware of the peculiarity of the territory of our autonomous community and the limitations that it entails in access to structured diabetes education resources for reasons of geographical dispersion for both professionals and patients , we wanted to provide a tool that allows us to take a digital resource made by professionals who are dedicated to diabetes education in various community health centers and that has been possible thanks to the altruistic collaboration of Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HP) Spain through its Leonese subsidiary SCDS. The result has been a mobile application, already available on Android phones and with an upcoming perspective of iOs and web format. It is intended through an agile design, supported by 29 short videos, to improve the learning experience of patients with diabetes and strengthen concepts and knowledge in health professionals from dispersed areas.
This application was born as a firm commitment by SCLEDyN to complete and facilitate the training of patients with diabetes mellitus in our health environment, overcoming the aforementioned barriers to access, especially in rural areas of Castilla y León.
