Follow the earthquakes detected by seismographic networks around the world and get
an alert on your phone when a quake happens in the region you choose.
WHAT THE APP DOES
• A list of the quakes detected in the last 24 hours or the last 7 days, with
magnitude, place, depth and how long ago it happened
• A world map with every quake in the period, coloured by magnitude
• The distance from each quake to you (location is optional and never leaves your
device)
• Alerts by region and by minimum magnitude: pick Brazil, Mexico, Chile,
Colombia/Ecuador/Peru/Bolivia, Indonesia/Philippines, Italy, the United States
or the whole world, and the magnitude you want to hear about
• A preparedness guide: what to do before, during and after shaking, and what to
pack in an emergency bag
• A detail page for each quake with local time, coordinates, a mini map and a link
to the official event page
• Available in English, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian and Indonesian
HOW THE ALERT WORKS
You pick a region and a minimum magnitude. When a quake above that value is
detected and published, the app tells you. If you live somewhere that rarely
shakes, you can also switch on alerts for strong quakes worldwide.
There is a button to send a test notification, so you can confirm alerts work on
your device without waiting for an earthquake.
WHERE THE DATA COMES FROM
Data: USGS · EMSC.
The public feeds of the United States Geological Survey and the Euro-Mediterranean
Seismological Centre. This app is not affiliated with either of them, nor with any
government body.
WHAT THIS APP DOES NOT DO
This app does not predict earthquakes. Predicting earthquakes is not possible with
current science. The app reports quakes that have already been detected and
published by seismographic networks.
The data depends on those networks and can take 1 to 15 minutes to appear after
the event. You may well feel the shaking before the app tells you about it.
This app is not a replacement for your local civil protection authorities or for
the alert system built into your device.
PRIVACY
The app asks for no sign-up, creates no account and collects no personal data.
Alerts work through topic subscription: the device subscribes itself to the subject
you chose, and no identifier of yours is sent or stored. Location, when you allow
it, is used only on the device to work out how far away each quake is.
