Redact: Privacy & Metadata Remover

Protect your privacy with Redact — remove hidden EXIF metadata from photos and videos, inspect what is embedded before you share, and convert formats locally on your device.

Key Features:

• Complete Privacy Protection:
  
  Remove GPS location, device details, timestamps, camera settings, and other hidden metadata. Video cleaning uses remuxing or full transcode (your choice in Settings) while preserving playback quality.



• Metadata Viewer:
  
  Scan any photo or video to see organized EXIF and container metadata before you clean it. Copy values or send a file to Clean or Convert.



• Clean, Scan, Convert & Share:
  
  Clean metadata in batches (up to 20 files). Convert image/video formats without uploading to a server — then run Clean if you also want metadata removed from converted files. Share into Redact from any app; cancel long jobs or continue with partial success if one file fails.



• Privacy-First Permissions:
  
  On Android 13+, browse and pick files from Downloads, Files, or gallery folders with the system document picker—no broad library access required. Optional photo-location permission unlocks GPS fields in Scan. Crash reporting and notifications are off by default.



• 100% Local Processing:
  
  Cleaning, scanning, and conversion run on your device. Optional anonymized crash diagnostics (Sentry) never upload your media. Temporary cache can be cleared manually or pruned on startup.



• Open Source & Ad-Free:
  
  No ads or behavioral tracking. Source code is available on GitHub for community review.

  English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Simplified & Traditional), Hindi, and Arabic.

EXIF metadata can reveal GPS coordinates, device model, and capture settings. Redact helps you share on your terms — with quality preserved and your files kept on your phone.

How It Works:

Select files in Redact or share from another app, tap Clean Metadata, and save privacy-safe copies to your gallery. For share-in, Redact strips metadata before you forward files onward. Strict Clean and share paths always remove location data.
