Dovetail is a portrait, one-finger 3D furniture assembly game set in a mountain cabinetmaker's workshop. Begin with a step stool, then work through a drawer frame, braced workbench, folding screen, ladderback chair, tambour desk, cabinet carcass, and secretary cabinet. These are eight authored commissions, each built around a different spatial dependency rather than a repeated puzzle with a new skin.
Every action changes the visible workpiece. Grab the raised wooden part by its brass ring, compare its section with the glowing joint, and slide it along the solid white assembly axis. Swipe the brass turntable when a joint must be reached from another face. A clean fit closes the shoulder, locks the seam, releases wood chips, and answers with a short mallet sound. A wrong direction shows red collision stripes on the actual contact surface. A move that would trap a later part reveals a cyan cage and a practical next step, so a failed attempt remains understandable and recoverable.
Subassemblies create visible furniture structure and lead to a choice between three tradeoff jigs. A guide, guard, spacer, mirror, or template can change the next decision, but no tool solves the commission automatically. The first commission teaches one real peg fit and one real turntable move without a separate instruction page. Reduced Motion replaces camera turns and particles with the same readable final states.
Finishing a commission opens a dedicated product showcase. The completed model rises above the brass platform, turns through a full presentation, receives a Maker's Mark, and reveals only the mastery and path records earned by the run. Finished furniture, best assembly paths, turn counts, releases, and True Joint ratings remain visible in the Furniture Gallery after restart. Optional rewarded ads may redraw a jig choice, restore one practice piece, or double remaining run marks. Ads never place a part, complete furniture, grant a Maker's Mark, or change a True Joint rating. The first release contains exactly eight commissions and does not promise free-form disassembly, unlimited furniture, online workshops, simulated wood deformation, or offline cinematic rendering.
