1. Create a new script on your device- no online connection required- or on Drive and other cloud services.

2. Write naturally in the free-flowing plain-text editor without the "screenplay software formatting stuff" getting in your way. You'll be using the easy Fountain markup method, where the general rule is to make your screenplay look "screenplayish".

Seriously, don't break your writing flow to manually format or indent characters, slug lines, parentheticals, or action. Write uninterrupted-- scene headers start with INT. or EXT. (or ".") capitalize CHARACTER names (or start them with "@"), and double-return after dialog. This is *really* easy to learn.

The editor (pick your favorite font) makes real-time suggestions, and you've got helpful in-context menus too. As you write, the Share item lets you share off-device backups to yourself (or your agent) via email or messaging app attachments.

3. Finished? With one swipe, DubScript does the hard formatting for you! Indentation, page breaks, CONT'Ds, page numbers, margins, and text styling appear like magic!

Markdown Support

Did you want to write an outline or synopsis in Markdown? Easy- create a new file, end its name with .md and you're on your way. Markdown auto-formats too!

"Open" is good. Vendor "lock in" isn't.

As mentioned, DubScript supports Fountain markup, a popular, open standard for writing scripts in plain-text. This means your screenplay file is compatible with any old plain-text editor. To exchange with other apps, just copy and paste.

some issues. when saving the draft I to a file, all seems fine, but if i were to save something else in that file, the original saved file can only be pulled up via recovery. trying to use the "wellness" exam, neat feature but the formatting of it makes most of the suggestion text nonreadable. switching the orientation of the phone simply puts all of the text over itself. being able to edit in the WE would be easier than finding the issues in the script.

The ads are non-intrusive, which is great, and overall I really enjoy writing scripts in markdown because it makes formatting on a phone super easy. So far I've only used it to write a short, but I worry about longer scripts because there's no scene outline to easily jump through the script. You can add scene numbers, but it's not useful if you're viewing the script in Read mode.

This app is actually pretty flawless for a mobile app. Not perfect. But not bad. I used Celtx for years, and had nothing but problems the past year or so. That's whenever I went to Final Draft on my laptop, but it's convenient to have an app like this on the go-to type up scenes during the day, & upload the rest later. Cleared the whole script once blank on accident. App closed couldn't undo. This app has an auto save feature that saved my story! 😊
