Addictive, fun learning on a daily basis. It works well, too, as long as I also reflect a bit on the grammar. The repetition is clever, the stories are fun and the translations are never far away. Duolingo has easily become my defacto tool for learning a new language. I had to subtract one star, though, because I feel that they lean too hard on us learners to get us to pay extra for the gems that help you progress faster. The price, at least in DKK, seems unreasonably high.

I've been using Duolingo for years and it's great. Currently studying Japanese, and the app has completely changed the learning style to match the language differences. I've seen concerns, particularly around Japanese, that you can't learn Hiragana - you absolutely can: you can either independently study kanji separately, or the course drip-feeds it to you while you're picking up sentence structure and some basic vocab. This app is great, does everything I want it to.

It's cute and colorful but overstuffed and stubborn. You may eventually learn a language using Duolingo but it's more of a colorful game than an actual lesson. Learning by example is great but their stubborn refusal to explain even the simplest grammatical concept means it's going to take 10 times longer to learn than with an app that's focused on teaching instead of leaderboards and micro transactions. So if you want some casual fun, go ahead. If you need to learn a language look elsewhere.
