About this game

Alkahest starts you with four elements — Water, Fire, Earth, Air — and a workbench, and lets curiosity do the rest. Drag two elements together and the app checks them against a local rules table seeded with 150 to 200-plus combinations branching outward through metals, weather, plants, creatures, and stranger things besides; if the pairing means something, a burst of particles marks the discovery, and if it doesn't, you get a soft fizzle instead of a dead-end error message. The rules engine itself is a small standalone piece of logic — feed it two IDs, get back a result or nothing — kept deliberately separate from everything visual around it.

Instead of a toolbox or a scrollable inventory, everything you've unlocked sits in a ring around the workbench that you spin with a drag of the thumb, pulling the element you want into reach rather than hunting through a list. Tap one and it doesn't pop open a sheet — it expands in place, growing into a full card with its description and every recipe it's known to appear in. A handful of hints reset once a day, each surfacing a single combination you haven't found yet, and clearing whole branches of the tree — every metal, every weather element — earns a badge, displayed as a jar on a shelf that only lights up once it's actually been filled.

The full picture of what you've found lives in its own space entirely: a star-graph, not a tech-tree list, where every discovered element floats as a node connected by lines to whatever it combines with, held in place by a small spring-physics simulation you can pinch to zoom and drag around like an actual star chart. Every icon in the app is drawn natively rather than borrowed — shape and color generated from category rather than picked from stock art. It runs entirely on the device, with nothing to log into and nothing to send anywhere.
