About this game

Aussie Play is a brick-breaker with nothing bolted onto it. Slide to move the paddle, tap to serve, knock the wall down. No energy meter, no timer counting down to your next go, no video to watch for an extra ball, no shop.

THE PADDLE IS A STEERING WHEEL
Where the ball lands on it decides where the ball goes. The middle sends it straight back up; the edge throws it wide. That is the whole skill of the game, and it is why the paddle is worth learning rather than just chasing the ball with. Slide anywhere along the court — you never have to touch the paddle itself, because your thumb would only cover it.

FORTY WALLS, LAID OUT BY HAND
Not one of them is generated. Every stage was written a brick at a time and played through, which is why the shapes are worth meeting.

First Light is a wide paddle and a slow ball, with nothing that fights back. The Tilt is shapes that send the ball somewhere you did not mean — funnels, wedges, and two rooms with one door between them. The Keep is thick walls and narrow ways in, with a paddle that has visibly shrunk. The Forge is fast and unforgiving, and its last stage is called The Last Wall for a reason.

FOUR SORTS OF BRICK
Plain ones go in a hit. Tough ones take two and go dull after the first. Dense ones take three. Solid ones never go at all — they are scenery, and the stage is finished when everything breakable is gone, so a sealed pocket of them is not a trap.

STARS FOR NOT LOSING A BALL
Three for clearing a stage without a single ball going past you, two for finishing with half of them in hand, one for finishing. Not for speed: scoring on time would punish anyone who plays carefully, and there is nothing here that wants you to rush. Only an improvement is ever written down, so a sloppy second run cannot cost you a star.

AN ENDLESS WALL THAT ESCALATES HONESTLY
Three balls for the whole run, and they never come back. The wall gains a row every other round up to ten. More of it turns tough and dense as you climb. The ball keeps speeding up until it reaches a ceiling, because past that point a ball simply cannot be followed and making it faster is not difficulty. Every round is worked out from its number, so round seven is always round seven — nothing is random, and a round you keep dying on is one you can learn.

BUILT FOR ONE HAND
Set how far the paddle travels for a given drag, and how high above your finger it rides. Turn the ball's trail on or off. Choose whether a lost ball serves again on its own or waits for you. There is no single right answer to any of those, so none of them is decided for you.

TWELVE EMBLEMS AND YOUR OWN RECORD
Three weeks of bricks drawn as a line, the run of days you have played, the time spent, and twelve emblems from your first wall to all forty. Nobody else's score is here, because nobody else's score is anywhere.

EVERYTHING STAYS HERE
No analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting, no networking code. The Android build requests no permissions whatsoever — which also means no notifications, so it will never nag you. No account, no sync, nothing to buy, and no copy of your record anywhere but this phone.
