About this app

School Bus Home is for working parents whose kids get home from school before they do. Pick your Ring entry camera or video doorbell, set an after-school window and an "expected by" time on school days, and get a calm confirmation when the school bus arrives. Turn on the optional morning window and you also get a note when a school bus is seen at your door in the morning.

WHAT YOU GET
• School-bus detection — when motion occurs inside your window, the app checks a single camera frame and confirms a yellow school bus: BUS DETECTED
• Optional morning window — off until you switch it on: one "School bus seen this morning" note with the time it was seen, and nothing else. It reports what the camera saw, never where anyone is
• Bus-time learning — the app learns your usual bus time and flags vehicle activity that matches it, on every camera
• No-arrival heads-up — a gentle, amber note if nothing has been detected by your expected-by time (after school only)
• Late-arrival update — one follow-up if the bus is confirmed after the heads-up
• Today dashboard with a current-week strip
• Skip today and Pause for half days and school breaks

HONEST BY DESIGN
Detection is best-effort: the bus can stop out of camera view, and a frame is not always available. An alert reflects what your camera captured, and neither an alert nor its absence confirms that anyone is or is not home. That is exactly why the morning window never sends a "no bus" heads-up: a quiet morning would tell you nothing, so we only ever report a school bus we actually saw, with the time. School Bus Home is an arrival-awareness convenience, not a childcare, supervision, security, or life-safety service.

PRIVACY BY DESIGN — WE DON'T KEEP YOUR PICTURES
When motion occurs inside one of your windows, School Bus Home takes a quick look at your camera — up to three still frames a couple of seconds apart, so a slow upload doesn't cost you the alert. The morning window uses exactly the same path — same frames, same check, same immediate discard. A quick first pass — "is there any vehicle at all?" — runs outside AWS: it reaches a GPU server we own and operate in the United Arab Emirates, through a reverse proxy hosted for us in Germany. Only if a vehicle is there does Anthropic Claude (via AWS Bedrock) make the final call on whether it is a yellow school bus. If that first pass is unreachable, it falls back to Amazon Rekognition inside AWS. The frame is then discarded: we do not keep your images or video, nothing is used to train AI models, and your footage is never shared for advertising. All we keep is the answer — bus or no bus, and the time. Outside the windows you set, your camera is never accessed, and with the morning window off nothing changes from before.

Link your Ring account in seconds with a passwordless email code. Choose your entry device, confirm your window, done — under two minutes.

Requires a Ring account with at least one camera or video doorbell, in the United States. Visual bus confirmation uses your camera's recorded events and requires an active Ring subscription on that camera; without one, School Bus Home still alerts on motion timing that matches your usual bus time. Notifications arrive by email and push.
