This app uses the VPNService to block known porn and malware sites, and to activate Safe Search in popular search engines. It does this by routing DNS requests through a filtering service (see cleanbrowsing.com). It does not actually create a VPN tunnel.

NOTE #2:

This app uses Accessibility Services and Device Administrator permissions while the blocking feature is in use. We need these permissions to ensure the filter is not bypassed or disabled. We don't use them for anything else.

I am grateful that this app is free but lately it has become a massive burden to my regular, everyday phone usage. Several times a day the filter will completely brick my phone until I hard reboot. Search results will load, but I won't be able to open web pages. It extends to innocuous apps like Spotify, sports apps, and even my workout apps. Wifi or cellular. Again, I am extremely grateful for this app. It is great at preventing access to pornography but the VPN is in need of some tweaks.

Desperately wish I could give it better. It was one of the best apps out there when I first got it. But several months ago it began blocking my access to any browser and even my Google search bar. I attempted to contact their support and all I got was "Uninstall, restart your phone, and try again". As someone who always has stuff to do on the browser this makes this app useless.

EDIT: a month later, still allows uninstall and have never received a response. One star. Original: Worked amazing for a while, no complaints. But a couple months ago, it allowed uninstall while active. I tested it a few times and it no longer blocks attempts, even with admin permissions enabled. I emailed them several times to troubleshoot, and never once received a response. If they'd get back with me, or fixed the issue, I'd gladly come right back, but it currently does no good as is.
