Do your eyes feel tired when you read on your phone at night? Do you have trouble falling asleep after looking at your phone's screen for a long time? Night Owl might be the solution for you!

Night Owl filters out blue light and reduces the brightness of your phone's screen more than you can achieve with Android settings, which helps you avoid eye strain, insomnia (inability to sleep), and headaches when staring at your phone in the dark.

• Dim the entire screen, notification icons, and notification drawer
• Easily adjust the filter intensity in the app or from the notification.
• Filter the blue light or customize the tint color.
• Schedule the app to start and stop automatically via timer or sun scheduler.
• Shake the device to stop the app. (optional)
• Disable auto-brightness and lower device brightness to minimum automatically when the app starts. (optional)
• Use quick setting tiles to start or stop the app quickly.

Night Owl uses the "Display over other apps" feature to put a filter on the screen to make it darker than usual and/or change its color.

Beta feature: Night Owl uses Android's accessibility feature to display a tinted overlay over the screen (including notification and lock screen) to make it darker than usual and/or change its color. Night owl does not read your screen content and does not collect any data through the Accessibility service. You need to enable Night Owl Accessibility to use the app.

Ratings and reviews

An absolute eye saver. I've been using it for literal years. I use it so often I have it saved as a shortcut so it's just a double press of my power button away. There are ads in a small bar in the app, but when it's just running in the background there's no pop ups or anything. The only time the app gets in the way is interacting with the play store outside of the play store app (like making a purchase in another app). The fix? Just turn it off, make your purchase, and turn it back on. Love it.

It hasn't been updated since 2021 so there are definitely bugs, but it's free with no popup ads and it WORKS. I fear the day it stops working completely. I can't survive without it. The reviewer that said it gave them an ad obviously had something else going on with their phone. Literally been using this for years and across four different devices without ever experiencing any issues.

Customizable and good selection of options but it doesn't always turn on at the scheduled time. It'll wait until ~20 minutes until the scheduled time to turn on, then freezes. When it freezes, I can't access the settings to adjust the dimness. Annoying because it defaults to the last setting before the wake up time. Since I gradually increase the dimness as I go to bed, this means it will jump to the dimmest setting when it does decide to turn on. It's just annoying enough to try other apps.
