*National Exam for the Certification of Competencies of Young People and Adults (Encceja)*

The purposes of Encceja are: to build a national benchmark for self-assessment for young people and adults through the assessment of competencies, skills, and knowledge acquired in school or after school; To structure an assessment aimed at young people and adults that will serve the Departments of Education in establishing the certification process for participants, at the level of completion of Elementary or High School, using the Exam results; to offer an assessment for the purpose of correcting school flow; to develop, consolidate, and disseminate the results so they can be used to improve the quality of Youth and Adult Education and the certification process; to develop parameters for participant self-assessment, aiming at the continuity of their education and their integration into the world of work; to enable the development of studies and indicators on Brazilian education.

The Encceja exams comply with the basic requirements established by current legislation for Elementary and High School. They are administered on a single day, in the morning and afternoon shifts. The administration dates in Brazil and abroad differ, as do the exams for individuals deprived of liberty or serving socio-educational measures. The exam consists of four objective tests, each with 30 multiple-choice questions, and a proposed essay. The objective tests assess the following areas of knowledge and their respective curricular components:

Natural Sciences and their Technologies (Chemistry, Physics, and Biology);
Mathematics and their Technologies;
Languages ​​and Codes and their Technologies and Writing (Portuguese, Modern Foreign Language, Arts, and Physical Education);
Human Sciences and their Technologies (History, Geography, Philosophy, and Sociology).

■ Elementary School
Natural Sciences;
Mathematics;
Portuguese, Modern Foreign Language, Arts, Physical Education, and Writing;
History and Geography.
