Tetris is a legendary video puzzle game created by Soviet programmer Alexey Pajitnov in 1984. Its name comes from the Greek word "tetra" (four) and tennis (the creator's favorite sport).
The Essence of the Game:
The playing field is a vertical rectangular grid (the "matrix" or "well"). Tetrominoes — geometric shapes made of four square blocks — fall from the top at a constant speed. There are 7 basic shapes in total, each identified by a corresponding letter of the Latin alphabet (I, J, L, O, S, T, Z).
The Goal of the Game:
Arrange the falling pieces so that they form complete horizontal lines without gaps. A completed line disappears, the player earns points, and all blocks above it shift down. The more lines cleared at once, the higher the score (a maximum of 4 lines simultaneously, known as a "Tetris").
