The Schauinsland summit is under nature protection and is also one of the most important local recreation areas in the biosphere reserve. Historically, the mountain was extremely important for the development of Freiburg and the entire surrounding area due to mining. It was heavily used for centuries.

Numerous farmers are active in the meadows and pastures. That is why the farmer Lore was developed for the app. It shows the tension between nature conservation, intensive local recreation and agricultural management from multiple perspectives.

The Schauinsland barrier-free app for the multimedia and interactive communication of nature and culture on the Schauinsland gives the stories about the natural attractions on the Schauinsland a special experience character.

With the help of a terrain game in the app, visitors can discover hidden treasures of the Schauinsland biosphere reserve and, via augmented reality, have the opportunity to display animal and plant species in their natural habitats via the smartphone camera and collect them in the app.

Stations and paths on the Schauinsland that are not suitable for visitors with restricted mobility due to steep intermediate passages can be explored virtually in the app by calling up drone flight videos.

This enables a trip to the museum mine or the view leads high up into a willow beech. The all-round view from the tower can be enjoyed without a strenuous climb, or a virtual visit to the sun observatory takes you into distant spheres. In addition to a barrier-free route on the Schauinsland, the app also includes offers in simple language and sign language.
