About this app

Of all the programming languages, Java, developed by James Gosling, is probably one of the best known today. The virtual machine of the Java runtime environment makes the programs platform-independent. This and the fact that Java is object-oriented and can therefore be read by humans has led to Java being very widely used. Beginners in programming in particular will not be able to avoid Java. The Java platform provides a comprehensive class hierarchy that supports building networking, graphics, database applications, etc., regardless of the operating system.

The course is aimed at ambitious Java beginners. Previous knowledge of any other programming language makes it easier to get started, but is not absolutely necessary.

The goal of this basic course is to build a solid understanding of the architecture of Java applications. Using many program examples and instructions, ambitious Java beginners with little previous knowledge will be able to write smaller programs themselves and further deepen their knowledge independently.

The written exam can be written online or at a FernUniversität Hagen campus location of your choice. Once you pass the exam, you will receive a university certificate. Students can also have earned ECTS points certified for a Certificate of Basic Studies.

Further information can be found on the FernUniversität Hagen website under CeW (Center for Electronic Continuing Education).
