Did database specialist Michael Stonebraker ever suspect that the database language he developed would never be replaced by a new language? Despite, or perhaps because of, its long history, SQL remains the only tool for dealing with relational database systems. A well-designed SQL database handles very large amounts of data with unmatched ease and confidence. It has undergone major transformations over the past two decades and has become a comprehensive, modern, and complex tool.
This course is aimed at ambitious beginners in SQL who have never dealt with SQL before. No prior knowledge of databases is required.
This course teaches you the most important fundamentals of relational database systems. Using practical examples, you will learn the daily use of SQL. The course is based on the SQL:2008 language standard, with all application examples also conforming to SQL:2011. You will also learn the key dialects of the MySQL, SAP Sybase ASE, and Oracle database systems.
The written exam can be taken online or at a FernUniversität Hagen campus location of your choice. Upon passing the exam, you will receive a university certificate. Students can also have earned ECTS credits certified for a Certificate of Basic Studies.
Further information is available on the FernUniversität Hagen website under CeW (Center for Electronic Continuing Education).
