About this app

Ideal for students and professionals.

This app supports the FernUni certificate course. The first chapter is available for free preview. Access to the full content requires registration through the CeW at FernUniversität in Hagen.

Did database specialist Michael Stonebraker already suspect that the database language he developed would remain unsurpassed by any new language to this day? Despite, or perhaps because of, its long history, SQL is still the only tool for working with relational database systems. A well-designed SQL database handles very large amounts of data with unparalleled ease and efficiency. It has undergone significant transformations in the last two decades, evolving into a comprehensive, modern, and complex tool.

This course is aimed at ambitious beginners in SQL who have never worked with the language before. No prior knowledge of databases is required. Anyone who wants to learn the language of relational databases in a practical way can participate in this SQL training.

The course will teach you the most important fundamentals of relational database systems. Through practical examples, you will learn the everyday use of SQL. The course is based on the SQL language standard. You will also learn the important dialects of the MySQL and Oracle database systems.

The written exam can be taken online or at a campus location of the FernUniversität Hagen of your choice. Upon passing the exam, you will receive a university certificate. Students can also have their earned ECTS credits recognized toward a Certificate of Basic Studies.

Further information is available on the FernUniversität Hagen website under CeW (Center for Electronic Continuing Education).
