ABOUT THE REMIT STUDY APP
Welcome to the official app of the REMIT study ("Remote Monitoring and Intervention for Optimized Care of Post- and Long-COVID Syndrome").
REMIT is a medical research project led by Jena University Hospital in cooperation with other research institutions. Our goal is to better understand the symptoms and progression of long-COVID in order to optimize future treatment methods.
WHAT DOES THIS APP DO?
This app is used to collect health data as part of the study. With your explicit consent, the app passively collects physiological data from your smartphone and connected wearables via Android Health Connect. This objective measurement data is combined with your responses from the symptom diaries to identify individual stress thresholds.
WHY IS THIS DATA NEEDED?
Long-term COVID is complex. Common problems include post-exertional malaise (PEM), dysautonomia, and sleep disturbances. To objectively capture the relationship between physical exertion and symptoms, the app requests the following permissions in Health Connect:
ACTIVITY & ENERGY (Steps, Calories, Basal Metabolic Rate, VO2max, Activity Detection) This data measures your daily physical exertion. We analyze it to objectively detect PEM. The goal is to understand the relationship between activity and subsequent fatigue in order to develop energy management strategies (pacing).
HEART & STRESS (Heart Rate, Resting Heart Rate, HRV) These values monitor the autonomic nervous system. Changes in heart rate variability (HRV) can indicate physiological stress (dysautonomia), which often precedes disease flares (crashes).
SLEEP We analyze sleep duration and quality to investigate their impact on your recovery and daily performance, as sleep disturbances are a key symptom.
RESPONSIVERY & VITAL VALUES (Respiratory Rate, Oxygen Saturation, Temperature) These values are used to monitor respiratory function and for the early detection of potential signs of infection or inflammatory processes.
METABORATION (Blood Glucose) If available, we use this data to examine possible correlations between metabolic fluctuations, energy levels, and fatigue.
DATA PROTECTION AND SECURITY
Protecting your data is our priority. The app is only accessible to study participants. All data is pseudonymized and processed with strict confidentiality in accordance with the GDPR. You retain full control over Health Connect permissions and can revoke them at any time.
