FirstCinema is a movie diary and film log for people who care about what they watch. Use it as a movie tracker for everything you see, rate and review films, build lists, save movies to your watchlist, and discover what to watch next based on your own taste.
KEEPING A RECORD
Every film you rate goes into your movie diary with the date you watched it, so your profile becomes a record of a year rather than a pile of opinions. Rating and reviewing are separate on purpose: four stars takes a click, and a paragraph takes an evening, so you are never made to do the second to get credit for the first.
Track movies you have watched, liked, or saved for later. Log a rewatch without losing the first time you saw it. Your viewing history grows into a film journal of what you watched, when you watched it, and how you felt about it.
LISTS
Collect movies into film lists, ranked or not, public or private. See which films in a list you have already seen, copy someone else's list to make it your own, and see which lists a film turns up in.
Make lists around directors, genres, years, themes, favorites, or anything else you want to remember. Build a personal movie collection, share recommendations with friends, or make a list simply because a group of films belongs together.
Keep a watchlist for movies you want to see and return to it whenever you are looking for something new.
REVIEWS
Write as much or as little as you want in your movie reviews, mark spoilers, and tag what you are talking about. Every review sits next to the ones either side of it in your own viewing history, so a film you saw in March is read in the context of what March looked like.
Read reviews from people whose taste you trust, follow their lists, and see what they made of the same movies. Your movie reviews become part of your viewing history rather than disappearing into a feed.
Rate movies from half a star to five in half-star steps, add a review when you have something to say, or leave the rating and move on. FirstCinema does not expect every film to become an essay.
FINDING SOMETHING TO WATCH
Not sure what to watch? Recommendations are built from your own ratings, the lists you keep, and members whose taste lines up with yours, never from what is trending. The more movies you track, the sharper they get.
Discover asks a few questions about what you are in the mood for tonight, then draws one film you have not seen. Roulette skips the questions and picks.
When you already know what you want to see, your watchlist keeps those movies close at hand. When you have no idea what to watch, FirstCinema can help you find something without reducing your taste to whatever happens to be popular.
PEOPLE
Follow members whose taste you trust and see what they made of the same films. Comment on reviews and lists, discover movies through people you follow, and find members whose taste gives you new ideas for what to watch.
Block anyone you would rather not hear from, and they disappear from every listing you see.
THE CATALOG
We carry movies with a real audience behind them rather than everything ever released, which keeps search usable. Shorts, festival titles and some older releases are missing, and there is a request form if you want one added. We read every request.
Available in English, Spanish and French.
