BUILT FOR FOSSIL HUNTERS
From first-time hobbyists to serious collectors, FossilRef is the field guide fossil hunters reach for — at the dig site, on the beach, or in the shale bed. Found a fossil on a beach walk? Prying open shale for trilobites? Asking "what fossil is this?" — FossilRef gives you the answer and the legal context, with no guessing and no dead-end web searches.

KNOW THE LAW BEFORE YOU COLLECT
Fossil collecting laws vary by state and land type. FossilRef includes state-by-state collecting law summaries so you hunt legally and confidently — a reference no other fossil identifier app includes.
