NasPlay is a NAS video player that streams the videos, music and photos on your home NAS, file server or PC shared folder straight to your phone or tablet without downloading.
It works with Synology File Station, SMB (Windows shared folders, Samba), WebDAV, HTTP directory listings and folders on your device.
■ Made for you if you want to
• Watch videos stored on your NAS from your phone
• Play videos from a PC shared folder on the sofa or in bed
• Organize travel and family videos and photos with tags
• Play videos with subtitle files or several audio tracks
■ NAS and servers you can connect to
• Synology NAS (DSM / File Station, two-step verification supported)
• SMB NAS and file servers (SMB2 / SMB3): Windows shared folders, Samba, and NAS from QNAP, ASUSTOR, TrueNAS, Buffalo and others that share over SMB
• WebDAV NAS and servers
• HTTP directory listings (Apache, nginx, etc.)
• Folders on your device or SD card
Save several connections and switch with one tap.
■ How it connects (on the same network)
NasPlay connects to your NAS by its IP address or host name while your phone and the NAS are on the same network (your home Wi-Fi or LAN).
To use it away from home, first connect to your home network with a VPN (on your router or NAS) or a service such as Tailscale.
NasPlay does not relay connections over the internet (Synology QuickConnect is not supported).
■ Supported files
• Video: MP4, M4V, MKV, WebM, MOV, AVI, FLV, TS, M2TS, MPG, MPEG, 3GP
• Music: MP3, M4A, AAC, FLAC, WAV, OGG, Opus
• Photos: JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP, WebP, HEIC, HEIF
• Subtitles: SRT, ASS, SSA, VTT (files with the same name as the video load automatically)
Codecs such as H.264, H.265/HEVC, VP9 and AV1 play when your device supports them.
■ Easy to browse
• Video thumbnails in the file list, saved so they appear instantly next time
• Folders you opened before show up instantly
• Sort by name, date or size, and search by file name
• Pin frequently used folders as favorites
• Organize files with tags, and filter by several tags at once ("has all" or "has any")
• Pick up the last video right where you left off
■ Smooth playback
• Drag the seek bar to preview the picture at that point
• Skip 10 seconds or 1 minute, and change the playback speed
• Six playback modes, including continuous, repeat and shuffle
• Orientation button: auto, landscape or portrait (landscape works even with rotation locked)
• Reconnects automatically when the network drops, and continues where it stopped
• Handles multi-gigabyte videos and folders with thousands of files
• Open videos and music from other apps, such as file managers
■ Subtitles and audio
• Loads subtitle files next to the video and shows the one in your language first
• Japanese Shift_JIS subtitles display correctly
• Switch embedded subtitles and multi-language audio tracks in MKV and other files
■ Background playback and music
• Keeps playing with the screen off or while you use other apps
• Play, pause and skip from the notification and the lock screen
• Keep watching in a small window over the file list while you browse
• Play the music folders on your NAS continuously or shuffled
• Open photos from the list and tap either side to move between them
■ Privacy and security
• Passwords are encrypted with Android Keystore and stored only on your device
• Connection details are used only to reach the NAS you choose, never sent to the developer
• HTTPS supported; plain HTTP also works on home networks
■ About ads
A banner ad is shown at the bottom of the file list and some other screens, never during playback.
A one-time in-app purchase removes the ads.
■ Please note
• No content is included; connect it to your own NAS or server.
• Available in English and Japanese.
