About this app

My Science Diary

“The only difference between screwing around and science is writing it down.”

My Science Diary gives curious kids a place to do exactly that.

Notice something strange in the backyard. Wonder why it happened. Try an experiment. Draw what you saw. Take a picture. Write down what happened. Then ask another question.

That is science.

My Science Diary is a simple digital science journal built around **observation, experimentation, curiosity, and critical thinking**. Kids can create unlimited observations and experiments and document their discoveries with writing, drawings, photos, and short videos.

Not sure where to begin? The app includes instructions for making scientific observations, conducting experiments, using your senses, forming a hypothesis, and following the scientific method. A built-in tutorial video walks you through the app and helps young scientists get started.

OBSERVE

Record the date, time, weather, location, and phase of the moon. Describe what you noticed, add drawings or images, and most importantly, write down the question your observation made you want to answer.

Because a good observation should lead to another question.

EXPERIMENT

Turn a question into an experiment. Record your purpose, hypothesis, materials, procedure, results, and conclusion.

It doesn't tell you what the answer should be. Finding out is the point.

DOCUMENT YOUR DISCOVERIES

Write as much as you want.

Draw directly in your diary.

Add photographs.

Capture short videos of behavior or movement.

Create as many observations and experiments as your curiosity can produce.

Export individual entries or your entire science diary as a PDF so your work can be printed, shared, or saved.
WE COLLECT NO DATA

None.

No account.

No sign-in.

No email address.

No advertising.

No tracking.

No location data collected by us.

No personal information sent to us.

Your observations, experiments, photographs, drawings, and videos stay on your device.

We cannot see your science diary. We cannot read it. We cannot collect it. We don't have it.

Your discoveries belong to you.

EXCITE! EDUCATE! INSPIRE!

My Science Diary was created by Antonio Gustin and The Gateway Science Project, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to lighting wildfires of scientific curiosity and building scientific literacy.

Ask questions. Make observations. Try things.

And write it down.
Observe. Experiment. Write it down. A real science journal for children.

What’s new

A new look, built for the kids using it.

Big comic-book headings, bright colors, and hand-drawn science icons on every
page. Bigger, friendlier type throughout, so the reading pages are easier on
young eyes.

Everything works the way it did. Your entries, drawings, photographs and
videos are all still here, still on your own device, and still never sent
anywhere.
