Snaphook is a community-powered mobile security app that protects Filipinos from rogue cell towers (IMSI catchers) and SMS phishing attacks.
WHAT IS AN IMSI CATCHER?
Rogue cell towers — also called IMSI catchers or Stingrays — are devices that impersonate legitimate cell towers to intercept calls, SMS, and data. They are portable, invisible, and already in use in the Philippines.
WHAT SNAPHOOK DOES:
- Continuously monitors nearby cell towers and flags suspicious ones
- Detects towers with no identity, unknown towers not in our database, and abnormally strong signals
- Scans incoming SMS for phishing patterns, lookalike domains, and known scam templates
- Builds a crowd-sourced hotzone map of dangerous areas across the Philippines
- Runs silently in the background — no action needed from you
THREAT LEVELS:
- SAFE — no suspicious towers detected
- WARNING — suspicious tower nearby but weaker than legitimate towers
- DANGER — suspicious tower with stronger signal, may attract your connection
- COMPROMISED — your phone may be connected to a rogue tower
PRIVACY FIRST:
- SMS scanning happens entirely on your device — message content never leaves your phone
- Tower reports are anonymized before submission
- No personal information stored or transmitted
- You can opt out of SMS scanning at any time
COMMUNITY POWERED:
Every detection contributes anonymously to a growing map of threat zones across the Philippines. The more users, the more accurate the protection.
