About this app

It’s often difficult for drone operators to determine where they can and cannot fly. OpenSky is the simplest and fastest way to view drone rules and regulations in the U.S. and Australia. Pilots can find out where to fly their drone, plan a flight with a few quick clicks, check airspace rules and get near real-time access to controlled airspace through LAANC.

Features of OpenSky include:
Guide for drone flying - Find out where and when you can and cannot fly based on published aviation regulations set by the FAA (U.S) and CASA (Australia).
Compliance maps from Aviation Authorities - OpenSky makes it easy to visualize airspace rules tailored to your operation and aircraft; for both recreational & commercial drone operators.
Identify Risks - OpenSky will help identify possible flight hazards in your area like Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs).
Airspace authorizations - Drone operators can automatically request authorization to fly in controlled airspace, including the busy airspace near major cities. In the United States this is called LAANC.
Track your missions - OpenSky will track and manage your past and upcoming flights, and notify you of changes to any planned flights.

In order to submit a flight plan, I have to add my faa registration number? You would think it should be easy right? No. After I put in the certificate number and date issued, it wants to know when the last registration date was. This makes no sense. I don't have a last registration date. No matter what date you put in, it won't let you advance to the next screen. I guess fly without authorization?

Hello John - Thank you for leaving feedback. If you are adding a license, it is not required to fill the field "Last Renewed Date". The Last Renewed Date is for Part 107 license holders who must renew their license every 2 years and it is not needed if your original license is still valid. Please reach out if you need further assistance.

It is quite laggy when scrolling around other locations. Also it doesn't seem to restrict you from flying in Wilderness areas.

Hello, Gary, Thank you so much for using OpenSky and your feedback. We would love to hear about which areas you were attempting to fly in and have had trouble with. All FAA approved LAANC applications follow a set of common rules and acquire data from approved sources. For more information see: https://www.faa.gov/uas or write back in app.

Useful way to plan a drone flight and make sure it complies with current geography based CASA rules. Having the ability to log in and sync flights across devices is handy too. I'm hoping they will add the ability to delete flights as well. I had some planned flights that didn't happen due to poor weather conditions. These are marked as completed even though they didn't happen and now I can't delete them. It appears you can only cancel flights before the scheduled time. Unhelpful. Plans change
