Every hero has a flaw. The trick is knowing which mission to forgive.
First Spark is a mutant recruitment game. You assemble a cast of heroes from cards, read what each one can do—and what each one can't—and decide who goes into the field on each mission.
RECRUIT
Each mutant is born from a combination of cards: power, origin, history, and temperament. An Aerialist flies. A Portalmaker traverses distances. A Technopath talks to machines. But the same draw that gives the power also gives the rest of the person—and nobody comes complete.
There are 47 cards in six classes (Beast, Elemental, Psionic, Morph, Kinetic, and Tech) and five attributes that define the recruit's body and mind: muscle, reflexes, claws, head, and charisma.
READ THE TAGS
Every recruit carries tags, and these are what decide the mission. There are 100 in total, and almost half of them are a hindrance.
"Fly" solves aerial approaches, cliffs, rooftops, and inaccessible places. "Invisible" is useful for infiltration and surveillance. "Breathe underwater" opens up submerged locations, floods, and ports.
On the other hand: "Poor eyesight" hinders reconnaissance and long-range observation. "Partial deafness" makes radio coordination and crowd control difficult. "One arm" complicates climbing, carrying loads, and any two-handed equipment.
Many tags come in opposing pairs—nothing about height versus falling from height, no about swimming versus sinking, cat eyes versus fear of the dark. You don't choose which side you get. You choose what to do with what you get.
ASSEMBLE THE TEAM
The mission doesn't ask for the strongest hero. It asks for the right hero.
A rescue in a burning building requires someone fireproof and with the grit to endure. An infiltration requires discretion, not power—and the most powerful recruit in your team might just be the most flashy. A nighttime operation bets against those who fear the dark, no matter how strong they are. Making the wrong lineup doesn't break the game. It just costs you dearly.
