About this app

Verity is a free news app created by the Improve the News Foundation (ITN), an apolitical American non-profit. It aims to counter pressure from political forces and click-maximizing AI that have resulted in a news environment with bias, omissions, polarization, and "alternative facts". Verity’s aim is to empower people to discover the complete and nuanced truth behind every major news story. It does this by separating facts from narratives. This even includes “nerd narratives” from the Metaculus forecasting community. Verity is also a powerful news aggregator facilitating viewing news from multiple perspectives.

Awesome New App... Allows a person to Taylor the app left, center, right OR BOTH (both left and right leaning reporting at the same time). Also very cool – there is a SHARE button at the top of each article - super for saving a link for future reference. 👉 This link also allows you to open a version of the Improve The News "article" in a web browser... and when you do that, alternative points of view are STILL present! This opens up countless rabbit holes for further exploration!

I have only used it for a short time, but I get the sense that I'm shown "just the facts", just like promised. What pulls down the rating is that according to Google Play, the app collects my browsing history, which I find creepy. And there is no way to opt out of analytics, which usually means that data is sent to Google or Facebook since they are service providers.

I value Verity News for its commitment to presenting multiple perspectives rather than promoting a single narrative. As a young person navigating complex issues, I find its format encourages critical thinking and independent analysis. It feels less biased and more like an open invitation to engage with contrasting viewpoints. It’s refreshing to see a news outlet that respects its readers’ ability to form their own conclusions.
