About this app

IngredientCheck turns any barcode into a clear ingredient report. Scan a product while you are still in the shop, see what is really in it, and decide for yourself. No account, no subscription, no ads.

WHAT THE SCANNER DOES
Point your camera at the barcode on food, drinks or cosmetics. IngredientCheck retrieves the full ingredient list and checks every entry against a database of more than 300 harmful additives, preservatives, E numbers, synthetic compounds and controversial chemicals. Anything of concern is flagged with a colour-coded warning and a plain explanation of why it is flagged.

HEALTH PROFILES
Set the app up for your own situation and it highlights only what is relevant to you:
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Children and elderly
- Keto, paleo, vegan, vegetarian
- No seed oils, low sugar, avoid artificial additives
- Clean beauty for cosmetics

PERSONAL ALLERGIES
Add your allergens once and get an automatic warning whenever a scanned product contains one of them. Your allergy list never leaves your phone.

NOT ONLY WARNINGS
IngredientCheck also recognises hundreds of beneficial ingredients and explains what they actually do for you, so every scan tells you what is good in a product as well as what is not.

PROCESSING LEVEL
Each product gets a NOVA processing score, from unprocessed whole food to ultra-processed, so you can see at a glance how far a product is from its raw ingredients.

HEALTHIER ALTERNATIVES
When a product contains something you would rather avoid, the app suggests what to look for instead.

INGREDIENT WIKI
Browse the complete harmful-ingredient database, search it by name, and read detailed explanations of the health concerns behind each entry. The wiki works offline, so you can read up anywhere.

PRIVACY BY DESIGN
- No account and no sign-up
- No personal data collected, shared or sold
- No advertising and no tracking
- Allergies, health profile, favourites and scan history stay on your device, encrypted with AES-256
- Only the barcode itself is ever sent to the product databases

Product information comes from OpenFoodFacts, OpenBeautyFacts and USDA FoodData Central. These are community-maintained databases, so a product may occasionally be missing or have an incomplete ingredient list. You can help by adding it yourself at openfoodfacts.org.

Quality of life and database upgrade

• Scans now end with a clear verdict — "Good choice!" when everything checks out, or "Reasonably good choice" when something needs a second look.
• You should see far fewer unknown ingredients: recognition improved a lot, especially on multi-language packaging.
