Every step you take becomes part of a journey across Japan.
"Japan Walk" is a walking-habit app that turns the steps you actually take each day into a virtual journey on the map, from Cape Soya at Japan's northernmost tip all the way to Shuri Castle in the Okinawa area near Japan's southernmost tip. By giving your daily walk a "journey" as its goal, walking becomes more fun and easier to keep up.
■ Your steps become real distance
Japan Walk connects with Health Connect and automatically reads the steps recorded by your phone or wearable device. Every step you take moves you further down the map, from Cape Soya, heading south across the Japanese archipelago.
■ Choose your own path
The destination is fixed, but the route there is entirely up to you. Take as many detours as you like along the way.
■ A journey past 100+ famous landmarks
Famous sights and power spots from all across Japan appear along your route, including the Shiretoko Five Lakes, Matsushima, Mt. Fuji's 5th Station, Fushimi Inari Shrine, Himeji Castle, Dogo Onsen, Mt. Aso, and the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium. Walk close enough to one, and you'll earn a badge tied to that location.
■ Arukyun (AI) shares local comments
When you arrive at a new spot, Arukyun — the app's original AI character — generates local trivia and comments about that place, so it feels like you're really visiting.
■ Ferries and bridges across the sea
Real routes and crossings are recreated along the way: the Tsugaru Strait Ferry between Honshu and Hokkaido, the Great Seto Bridge between Honshu and Shikoku, the Kanmon Ferry between Honshu and Kyushu, and the Marix Line between Kyushu and Okinawa. You can't cut straight across open water — your journey realistically follows the coastline and these routes.
■ Reach the goal, then turn around and go again
Once you reach Shuri Castle (or Cape Soya), you turn around and start a new lap. Your trail color and goal badge change with each lap, so every journey feels fresh.
■ Real nearby spot info, too
Real nearby spots such as lakes and airports can be searched near your current position. View them in Street View for an extra sense of being there.
■ Free version and Full version
The free version lets you walk freely within Hokkaido (Cape Soya to Hakodate). Upgrade to the Full Version (¥500, one-time purchase) to unlock the full journey across Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, and Okinawa.
