About this app

Echo turns your Android phone or PoC radio into a window on the global amateur radio community. Browse the live EchoLink directory, discover repeaters and conferences worldwide, and connect in a tap.

Whether you are brand new to EchoLink or a seasoned operator, Echo makes VoIP ham radio feel easy. Tap a station and start talking. Clean status, big buttons, and a calm interface that gets out of the way mid-QSO — a modern Material 3 take on push-to-talk.
REQUIRES A LICENSED ECHOLINK ACCOUNT
A valid, licensed amateur radio EchoLink account is required. Register at echolink.org (a link is built into the login screen). Echo is an independent, third-party client and is not affiliated with or endorsed by EchoLink Systems, Inc.

EXPLORE THE WORLD OF STATIONS
• Browse the live EchoLink directory, filterable by Users, Repeaters, Links, and Conferences
• Search by callsign, location, node number, or country name
• Station cards with node type, location, online/busy/offline status, and conference occupancy badges
• Recent stations reel on the home screen for one-tap reconnect
• Favorites you can reorder your way — drag on phones, D-pad grab-and-swap on compact radios

TALK YOUR WAY
• Big push-to-talk (PTT): press-and-hold or toggle — a circular button on phones, a wide bar on compact radios
• Hardware PTT via a bindable custom key (Bluetooth HID or native Android)
• VOX (voice-operated transmit) for hands-free operation, with adjustable threshold and hang time
• Key-down and key-up tones
• Always-visible TX/RX status so you never guess whether you are transmitting

IN THE QSO
• Live peer info on a clean, focused connection screen
• Conference participant list showing who is speaking and when they joined
• In-QSO text messaging
• VU meter for real-time mic level monitoring
• Screen stays awake during a contact

AUDIO THAT FITS THE ROOM
• RX processing modes: Natural, Clear Voice, Loud, and Enhanced for different environments
• Mic gain from -12 to +18 dB in clean 6 dB steps
• Separate network jitter buffer and playback buffer controls, with settings that explain the latency tradeoff
• Input and output device selection, including Bluetooth headsets
• Audio presets — save named snapshots for a quiet room, a noisy car, or the field, and switch in a tap

CONNECTS ANYWHERE
• Multiple network modes: Direct (UDP), Relay (NAT traversal), Proxy (TCP), and Auto
• Works behind NAT out of the box; relay is on by default, with a NAT hole-punch option
• Full proxy configuration for restrictive networks and CGNAT
• Auto-reconnect to your last node on launch (opt-in)
• Accept incoming connections (opt-in) with an accept/decline call screen
• Deep links (echolink://connect/) and launcher shortcuts for instant reconnect

BUILT FOR EVERY OPERATOR
• Optimized layouts for phones and compact PoC radios
• Full D-pad and hardware-key navigation for radios without a touchscreen
• Native Android keyboard input on compact devices
• Accessibility first: screen reader support, semantic labels, and toggle-based PTT for explore-by-touch

MAKE IT YOURS
• Light, dark, or system theme
• Accent color customization: Material You (Android 12+), nine presets, or a custom picker
• Adjustable text scale and a fullscreen/immersive toggle
• Settings backup and restore to a JSON file :passwords are excluded, so it is safe to share
• Keep-running-in-background prompt with an optional battery Doze exemption for long QSOs

GOOD TO KNOW
• Requires a licensed amateur radio operator and a registered EchoLink account
• Like radio itself, EchoLink audio and text are transmitted unencrypted: any connected or RF-linked station can hear you
• Connection history and in-QSO chat are session-only and are not archived
• Incoming calls require you to opt in first
• Currently English-only
