Make the room feel closer.
Chinwag, previously called Icebreak, turns awkward first minutes into laughter, stories and inside jokes. It gives the host confidence, gives quieter people an easy way into the room and gives everyone something better than small talk.
Pick a deck, read the card out loud, then everyone points, votes or argues their case. Nothing to set up, no rules to learn and no waiting while someone explains how it works.
FIVE WAYS TO CAUSE CHAOS
- Most Likely To: point at the person who fits the prompt.
- Never Have I Ever: done it? Put a finger down.
- Hot Takes: pick a side and make your case.
- Would You Rather: two options, no neither.
- Tell Us: everyone answers, and passing is always fine.
26 DECKS, 3,069 QUESTIONS
New Friends, a full 140-question deck, is free, and so is Your Cards, the deck you write yourself. Chinwag Plus unlocks the other 25:
- The classics: Party, Hot Takes, Would You Rather, Throwback, Extremely Online
- Real life: The 9-5, Housemates, Food, Music & Movies, Sport, Firsts, Deep, Travel & Hostel
- Together: Date Night, Long Distance, New Parents
- All ages: Family, Road Trip, Animals & Nature, Family Would You Rather, Christmas
Decks written for grown-up rooms stay hidden unless the group confirms every player is an adult, so they never turn up by accident in a mixed room.
JUST THE TWO OF YOU? DUO MODE
A separate mode for two people. You both answer the same questions, then compare and talk it out, across five moods and 120 questions. Funny & Everyday is free; Chinwag Plus unlocks Getting Closer, Date Night and Future & Dreams.
FAMILY MODE
Turn on Family Mode and the catalogue narrows to decks reviewed for mixed-age rooms, plus a hand-picked set of New Friends questions. Family sessions never see a paywall or a purchase prompt.
BUILT FOR THE ACTUAL PARTY
- A round is 20 cards, short enough that the group wants to go again straight away.
- Combine decks to set the tone for the room you are in.
- Repeat rounds hold back the cards you just saw.
- Write your own prompts in Your Cards; they stay on your phone and get dealt into your rounds.
- Large, readable cards you can hold up across a table.
- Tap to move on. That is the whole interface.
NO ACCOUNTS. NO ADS.
There is nothing to sign up for and no advertising. The full catalogue is stored on your iPhone, so rounds keep going in a hostel with bad wifi, on a plane or anywhere else the signal gives up, and paid decks keep working offline for a grace period once your subscription has been confirmed. Prompts, answers and deck choices are never sent to a server. Two things leave the device: purchase status through RevenueCat, so the app knows what you have unlocked, and crash reports to our own self-hosted server, with prompt text scrubbed out before sending. Neither is tied to a name, an email address or an account, because the app has none.
ANYONE CAN PASS
Anyone can pass on any card, at any time, without giving a reason. That house rule sits on the screen the whole way through, and the app never tells anyone what they have to do.
CHINWAG PLUS
Chinwag Plus is an optional auto-renewing subscription, monthly or yearly, with no weekly plan and no lifetime unlock. It unlocks every deck and every Duo mood beyond the free ones. Prices are shown in the app before purchase. Payment is charged to your Apple Account and subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel in App Store settings. Restore Purchases is available on the paywall.
