About this app

Most learner-driver apps are really theory-test quiz banks with a logbook bolted on as an afterthought. Others want an instructor account, a school code or a subscription before they will record a single drive. Harnow Permit goes the other way: it is the logbook itself, built for the learner and the parent or friend in the passenger seat.

Where other logbooks stop at "date and minutes"
Harnow Permit records each supervised drive with the details that actually matter when you look back:
– daylight or night, counted separately toward each target
– the kind of road: residential, town centre, highway, rural, gravel or car park
– conditions: clear, rain, wet road, fog, strong wind or low sun
– who supervised, plus a short note on what went well and what to repeat

Start the timer as you pull away and tap "Finish & log" when you park. The minutes are filled in for you, and a drive that began after dark is already marked as night. Forgot to time one? Log it by hand and pick the date.

Where other apps give you a checklist, this gives you levels
Sixteen manoeuvres are grouped into car control, junctions, parking and road craft: hill starts, roundabouts, parallel parking, reverse bay parking, three-point turns, merging, the emergency stop and more. Each one moves through four stages: not tried, shown, assisted, solo. A +1 button counts every practice rep, so it is easy to see which skills keep getting skipped.

Progress without a spreadsheet
– daylight and night hours against the targets your permit requires (you set the numbers, because they differ from one licensing authority to the next)
– an eight-week bar chart of time behind the wheel
– a breakdown of minutes by road type, so a logbook full of quiet residential streets is obvious before the road test is
– longest drive, average drive and total drives
– a readiness line that says exactly what is left: hours still to log and manoeuvres not yet driven solo

What it leaves out, on purpose
No lessons to buy, no video course, no leaderboard, no nag screens. The logbook sits in a local database on the phone, needs no connection and never asks you to sign in.

Harnow Permit suits learners on a provisional licence or permit, parents keeping the supervised-hours record, and anyone who wants a clear picture of practice before booking the test.
