Appeared to be using the front light sensor (the one used for automatic brightness control of the phone) with no option to change it. My phone has a pop-up front camera and to my understanding uses a tiny hole above the screen to detect light levels. The back camera is far more accurate and useful when trying to point the phone at a light source to measure it (I'm trying to measure the brightness of my monitors).

Simple, effective, and easy to use, so this app delivers exactly what it says. 🪴I use it to measure window light for indoor plants, which helps figure out the location with the right intensity of light. Since this meter updates its measurement number on-screen (e.g., 8000 lux) so quickly, I take a screenshot once the screen of my phone is oriented properly toward the light. 🕯️ Confirmed its calibration by holding my phone 12 in. away from a candle: measured 1 footcandle.

Best of many free light meter apps tried. The layout is superior in many ways: showing mean and median values since reset as well as both lux and foot candles all readable at a glance. My device reads similarly to a calibrated meter under some conditions, but is mostly useful only for relative comparisons not absolute measurements.
