About this app

Korean has forty letters and a writing system that actually makes sense. Most people can learn to read it in a weekend.

The hard part is what comes after the letters — and that is where most apps stop. Hangul Lab takes you all the way through reading.

WHAT'S FREE, AND STAYS FREE

• All 40 letters with stroke order. You trace each one and the app checks every stroke, so you find out right away if you are drawing ㅂ in the wrong order instead of learning it wrong for a year.

• Syllable blocks — all six arrangements, including the wrapped ones like 과 and 각 that trip people up.

• Final consonants: 27 spellings, only 7 sounds. With real words, not a table to memorise.

• Sound-change rules: linking, nasalisation, tensing, aspiration, ㄴ-insertion. This is why 밥이 sounds like 바비 and why 좋아요 sounds like 조아요. Every example has audio.

The whole reading course is free. No trial, no daily limit, no ads.

WITH HANGUL LAB PRO

• Everyday phrases grouped by situation — ordering food, asking directions, shopping, meeting someone for the first time — recorded by a native speaker.

• Slang people actually use, each one tagged with who you can say it to. 대박 is fine almost anywhere. 킹받네 is not something you say to your boss.

• A short daily brief on Korea in plain English, each one carrying a Korean word you can start using.

New phrases and slang are added every week.

ABOUT THE PRICE

Pro is $2 a month. That is not an introductory price — it is roughly what it costs to keep building this.

The goal is for anyone to be able to learn Hangul cheaply, so the part that teaches you to read is free for good. You never have to pay to finish the alphabet.

BUILT FOR ADULTS

No cartoon mascots, no streak guilt, no confetti. Clear typography, explanations in English, and audio on everything.

The reading course works offline, so it keeps working on a plane or on a train with no signal.
