I had it for about a year and hardly used it because when I would study I would try to write down every word it didn't know which got exhausting and I would only do a few minutes. now I just click on the translation of each word I don't know and continue with watching, and I can't believe I never did this before. I'm learning so much and so fast! the flashcards and quizzes are super helpful too.

This app has everything and is totally worth the subscription! I speak 4 languages and am trying to pick up another one, and this is the best way to learn if you don't have a community of native speakers around you all the time. Make sure you check out ALL the features including vocabulary cards, click for meaning, repeating phrases on the mic and slowing things down, etc.

I am taking a 4-pronged approach to learning Italian. 1) Duolingo because it helps to build an intuition for how the simple bits of the language work, and to give me the tools to build my own sentences. 2) Memrise to help with common phrases, as Duo is virtually useless for this. 3) Lingopie to push beyond my comfort zone, especially to improve my understanding of complex conversations. 4) A classic textbook to understand formal grammar and syntax and as a reference when I'm lost.
