This Level Hates You is a classic platformer: run, jump, stomp critters, and bonk "?" blocks all the way to the door at the end of the level. Sounds familiar, right? Think again. The scenery lies, and every step of the way is a prank waiting to happen.

The floor turns into a mouth. The door turns into a monster and bites. That cute little bird in the background pulls out a cartoon machine gun. The fluffy cloud shoots lightning. A ninja shows up out of nowhere on your second jump. The seesaw launches you into space. And that giant boulder was just waiting for you to stand still.

And you're not alone. A snarky little bird roasts you after every death, the tutorial gives you advice you really shouldn't follow, and a suspiciously friendly "buddy" keeps offering to help you reach the door. Do you trust him?

Died? You're back in an instant. And on the next try, everything happens exactly the same way: the level doesn't cheat, it's just mean. Pay attention and there's always a way through.

• 66 long levels across 3 worlds: Grassy Grievances, Molten Meltdown, and Frostbitten Fury
